“Are Your Ears Stopped Up?”

I wrote this devotion last year. It showed up in my memories feed this morning. I must say it spoke to me quite loudly, so I thought I would share it with you again as well!! I hope it encourages you today!! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ’•πŸ’•

“Are Your Ears Stopped Up?”

For the last three weeks, I was fighting an ear infection, an upper respiratory infection and bronchitis (I’m much better now thankfully). At the very beginning, my left ear was completely stopped up and my ear drum perforated. Along with the pain from that, my ear was ringing. I could hear nothing out of that ear other than the incessant ringing — it wasn’t just an occasional ringing like I’ve had in the past, it never stopped. Three weeks later, my ear is opening up, although still somewhat stopped, and my ear is still ringing, though not quite so loudly. Sometimes that’s how we are spiritually too. My ears have been so stopped up before that I couldn’t hear the voice of the Lord. All I could hear was the voice of the enemy ringing in my ears incessantly. Have you ever been there? Maybe the enemy has told you that God doesn’t love you. Maybe he suggests to you that you aren’t worthy of forgiveness. Maybe he tells you that healing is for everyone else but you. Maybe he is in your ear saying that you got yourself in this mess and God is just going to let you lay in the bed you made. Maybe he tells you that nobody cares about you and you’re all alone. Maybe he suggests to you that things will never get better and everyone will be better off if you are no longer here. Maybe he tells you that what you’ve done is far worse than God can forgive. Does any of that sound familiar? We have all had the lies of the enemy echoing in our ears at some point in our lives, but that’s exactly what his words are — lies! In my own life, when I’ve found that my ears are stopped up, it’s because I have neglected my Bible reading. Although He speaks in other ways too, that’s one of the best places to hear what the Lord has to say about us and to us. When all we hear is the din of the enemy, it’s time for us to open up the Word and begin to prepare our ears to hear from the Lord, As we soak ourselves in the Word, our ears open up and we begin to hear the Father’s voice again. We learn what He says about us and then His voice becomes louder than the voice of the enemy. God’s Truth drowns out the lies of satan. We begin to realize who we are in Him. If your ears are stopped up today, begin reading the Word more diligently and asking the Lord to give you tender ears to hear His voice.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

Romans 3:22-24 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 1:9-14 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; giving thanks unto the Father which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light; who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.

John 8:44b He {Satan} is a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Isaiah 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
