When we cast our cares on God, He replaces the worry and anxiousness with His peace. I don’t know about you, but I rather like that trade-off!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6–7 NIV)
The song “Cast My Cares” by Finding Favour reminds me that even though I may be walking through hard times, and fear seems to overtake me, I can give Him everything that is worrying me and trust Him to make a way. Read these lyrics–
When fear feels bigger than my faith
And struggles steal my breath away
When my back’s against the wall
With the weight of my worries stacked up tall
You’re strong enough to hold it allI will cast my cares on You
You’re the anchor of my hope
The only one who’s in control
I will cast my cares on YouThis war’s not what I would have chosen
But You see the future no one knows yet
And You’re still God when I can’t
See the working of Your hands
You’re holding it all
The battles and troubles we face are things we would never choose to go through. I certainly wouldn’t choose rough waters over smooth sailing, but God uses the storms in our lives to draw us closer to Him, to be a witness of His grace and power to those watching our responses to the storm, to give us experience in the storm to help others in their time of need, and many other reasons that we may never really know. But in these storms, if we will only trust His leading, if we will only cast our cares on Him, He will give us peace in the midst of our storm. My dad was in the Navy and I remember him telling of when they were out at The song, The song, sea and were caught in a hurricane. He said they didn’t turn the ship around and run from the storm, but they went directly into it head on to get into the eye of the hurricane where the waters were peaceful. That’s How God leads us….not away from the storm but to the eye of it where His peace gives us calm waters though the storm is raging all around! I’m so glad of that today!
