Thirty Days of Thanks – Day 11

Day 11 of Thanksgiving
Today, in honor of Veteran’s Day, I am thankful for the many men and women who have sacrificed so much in service to this country!! They have given of themselves so that I might be free. I’m reminded of this Scripture — “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Our servicemen and servicewomen may not all make the ultimate sacrifice of lying down their lives, but they have served this country knowing that their life was on the line and they were willing to give it up! Although I had many uncles, cousins and grandparents who served, I want to pay tribute to my dad Joe B. Hanna Jr. and my step-dad Phil Bennett for serving this great nation. Daddy served in the US Navy and was deployed to Cuba during the Cuban Crisis, Phil served four years in the Navy, then transferred to the Army where he served another 16 years. He was deployed multiple times during the Gulf War. I have such great respect for our military! When I see them in uniform or I see one wearing a cap with military insignia, I always make it a point to speak to them and thank them for their service. I’ve even been known to pay for their meal if I encounter them in a restaurant. I may even shed a tear when I speak to them because I realize they are fighting for me — someone they don’t even know!! What a humbling thought!! My appreciation for them will drip down my cheek!! To all of my friends and family who have served or are currently serving, and their families, thank you for your sacrifice and Happy Veterans Day!!!
