Today my post is two-fold. I am thankful for the church! I have been a member of three churches my entire life — Pine Mountain Valley Church of God, where I was raised, Abundant Life Worship Center, in my late twenties through early forties, and Evangel Temple, where I currently attend. Church has always been an important part of my life. I love going to church. I love being around God’s people. Each of these churches is super special to me, but it isn’t the building that makes the church — it’s the people and it’s the fact that the Word of God is preached there!
Hebrews 10:25 says “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Being a part of a church helps me grow as a person, helps me grow in my faith, and gives me strength for daily living. If you don’t have a church home, I would encourage you to pray and seek the Lord about where you should attend. You need that Christian fellowship. The Bible also says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God”. (Romans 10:17) Attending church is so much more than just something to do for an hour on Sunday. Attending church and hearing the Word of God preached increases our faith! Who doesn’t need their faith built up?!? I would also encourage you to find a place to serve within that body of believers. God has given each of us gifts that should be used to edify other believers and to impact the world around us. The second thing I am grateful for this morning is technology that will allow me to hear the message being preached at Evangel Temple today even though I cannot be there physically. I have been on a mini-vacation this week in Blue Ridge, GA, and will be coming home today. I will be able to watch the service today through our live feed! Technology is good and I’m grateful for it on occasions like this, but if you are able to physically make it to church, you should do that rather than watching from the comfort of your own home. There is strength in being a part of the body that you won’t get from the comfort of your easy chair! Happy Sunday!!
